Tony & Isabelle Covarrubias

Isabelle, our two children, Graciella, Jakim and I (Tony) moved to West Africa in November of 2019. Both Isabelle and I had great careers and a wonderful church community in Omaha Nebraska but for many years God had put in our hearts to move to West Africa. We had been contemplating the idea of moving to West Africa for a long time until one day in September of 2019, out of nowhere the Lord made it clear to us that it was time to move because he had some work for us there. We then quit our jobs, shipped our belongings to Africa, put our house up for rent and left for the field. When we arrived in West Africa we did not know exactly why the Lord had called us there. We kept praying and asking God for guidance, and to show us why. One day we got introduced to Don and Janet. I remember we met Don at a restaurant and as he was explaining to us their ministry in Oasis of Hope, feeding malnourished babies, helping sick babies with their medical needs, and helping women get trained in self-employment skills, that really spoke to us. We knew then, that that was the reason why God called us there. When we then started volunteering at Oasis and we saw firsthand what the Lord was doing, it was confirmation for us to consider becoming missionaries with Sheltering Wings. We are thrilled to work alongside Don and Janet at the Oasis of Hope to continue to be a blessing to the people there.
