Our Vision

The vision of Sheltering Wings is to glorify Jesus by following His simple commission to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).  To that end, this organization envisions helping:

  • To send missionaries to areas of the world most needing to hear the gospel.
  • To recruit and train individuals to serve in ministry teams.
  • To provide missionaries in the field a healthy environment and pastoral care.
  • To provide a seamless transition from everyday life to the mission field for every missionary.
  • To encourage missionaries to fully develop their God-given talents and abilities.
  • To build a cooperative of churches who possess a heart for missions and who desire to help nurture a heart for missions.
  • To create a partnership of churches to fulfill God’s world mission.

1To prepare and equip individuals called to serve as long and short term missionaries to fulfill the Great Commission in areas of the world most needing to hear the Gospel.

To the spiritual and physical well-being of our missionaries which includes providing pastoral care and loving accountability.

To send and support missionaries called to reach the lost and disenfranchised throughout the world.

To share the love of the Gospel through our missionaries sharing the Good News of the Gospel through word and raising up local leaders to carry on spreading the Gospel message.

To share the love of the Gospel through actions that help meet people’s physical needs as our missionaries work alongside national pastors, leaders, and believers.

To the continued development of working partnerships and growing deeper relationships with the sending home churches and our family of donors.

Our Story

Sheltering Wings was founded in June 1999 by a single missionary, Ruth Cox. Our mission, grounded in 2 Corinthians 5:17-20, inspires and challenges us to find ways to offer the reconciliation of Christ to the nations. Today, Sheltering Wings has more than 20 long-term missionaries and hosts many short-term missionaries. As an organization, we send missionaries to the field while partnering with the Church to ensure their pastoral care and support.

Through work, related to both relief and development, Sheltering Wings’ missionaries look for effective ways to share the love of Christ in word and in deed. A few of our primary ongoing projects include:

  • Planting and developing orphan care including an orphanage, foster care programs, milk programs, adoption, and more.
  • Building and equipping schools, medical clinics, and churches to support local communities in poverty-stricken areas.
  • Working side by side with the local churches to help, support and spread the Gospel.
  • Bringing clean water along with the ‘Living Water’ to many dry and thirsty villages through well-drilling projects.
  • Developing a thriving child sponsorship program that sends more than 500 children to school.
  • Caring for widows through a widows’ sponsorship program, which provides pastoral visits and small baskets of food to each widow every month.
  • Equipping widows and women in crisis to learn a trade and support themselves with a micro-business plan

Sheltering Wings projects and the number of missionaries have grown rapidly as our vision has expanded to emphasize a greater need for partnerships in the Gospel with “all saints in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 1:3-5

We encourage other believers to participate in our projects, pray for us, and to join us in the field to explore God’s call to missions

Our Mission

Sheltering Wings is a Christian organization committed to the mission of…

Reaching the lost and disenfranchised throughout the world, and bringing the reconciliation of Christ.

Seeing individuals equipped and sent to fulfill the work of the gospel.

Spiritual and natural wholeness of missionaries through pastoral care and loving accountability.

Statement of Faith

  • We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substitutionary work on the cross, in His bodily resurrection from the dead, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe that man’s only hope of redemption is through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, accomplished through the regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, those who are saved unto the resurrection of life and those who are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord, Jesus Christ.

God didn’t hold back when He saw that the entire human race, was in great need. He gave His very own son, Jesus, to purchase for Himself a people to call His very own.

What can be our only response but to give all we have back to Him? Our finances are a great tool the Lord has given us to sow seed into His Kingdom. He doesn’t need our money, but He does allow us to use it for His Glory and our own good.

If you feel like you don’t really have a heart for missions, then start giving money into mission organizations – it will change your heart! Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” Matthew 6:21. If Sheltering Wings is not the organization for you, then find one you like and give. Of course, we are always honored if you trust us with your money and we will do our best to make sure it goes toward building the Kingdom – by His grace.

The prayers of the righteous avail much.  Please pray for our ministry and that the work of Jesus would be accomplished through Sheltering Wings. Pray that:

  • The people of Sheltering Wings would have humble and serving hearts of love
  • The ministry of Sheltering Wings would be filled with the Holy Spirit’s power in perfect alignment with God’s Word
  • The powers of darkness would be struck down and unable to hinder the work
  • Sheltering Wings would find favor with the local and federal government in the counties where they minister
Sheltering Wings would like to thank you for partnering with us in prayer.  In an effort to keep you informed, we have asked the missionaries abroad and the Board at Sheltering Wings to contribute monthly prayer requests.   Our goal is to present these prayer requests to you in a clear, concise way.  Please email us at info@sheltering-wings.org to sign-up for our month “Intercessory Prayer Newsletter.”
