Afou
Afou is a serious little girl who is looking for a sponsor. She was born in 2013 in a remote village in West Africa. Though she is only 11 years old she has faced many challenges in her life. Her father died a few years ago leaving her mother to care for her and her six siblings. Afou is the youngest child in the family. She and her family, as is customary, live near her father’s extended family. However, the burden of providing for her and her siblings falls on the shoulders of her mother. The family has a field where they grow their food. Corn is the main crop, but they also grow peanuts. Her mother sell peanuts in the village marketplace. This is not nearly enough income to provide for her family’s basic necessities.
Afou and her siblings do what they can to help by working in the fields, fetching water from the village well, doing laundry and helping to prepare meals.
Afou loves to go to school. This year (2023-2024) she is in 5th grade. She worries that her mother will no longer be able to pay her school fees though.
