Hello, my name is Amira. I was born in 2011. I was four years old when my father died. Now, I live with my mom and my brothers. I have three brothers and an older sister. My sister lives with my uncle. There is a little bit of electricity in our home, but we do not have running water. We need to go to the well, which is about 100 meters away, to get the water that we use throughout the day. My mom does not have a job, but she works in our family’s small field during the rainy season to raise the crops that we will eat throughout the whole year. My family is Muslim. Even though my family thinks that education is important, I have never been able to attend until this year (2021-22) because I was born a deaf mute and they could not afford to send me to a special school where kids like me can go to learn. I am very excited that I was given a spot in a school for the deaf! I want to get an education so that I can help support my mother when I am all grown up.
