This precious little girl is Maimouna. She and her twin sister, Awa, were born in West Africa in 2018 and are growing up in extremely difficult circumstances.

Maimouna’s father passed away when the girls were only two years old. Today, Maimouna lives with her mother and five older siblings in a small mud-brick house that is constantly in need of repair.

Maimouna’s hard-working mother does everything she can to provide for her family. She collects water from the community pump and sells it at nearby sites where workers are making bricks. But during the rainy season, people collect rainwater instead, leaving her unable to make sales. Those months are especially difficult. Food becomes scarce, and the family faces tremendous financial stress. Two of Maimouna’s older brothers also take on odd jobs whenever they can to help meet the family’s basic needs.

Despite these hardships, Maimouna is enrolled in school. During the 2026–2027 school year, she is in the second grade. Unfortunately, her ability to remain in school is not guaranteed because of her family’s poverty.

Sponsorship would pay Maimouna’s school tuition and provide the school supplies she needs for her grade. In addition, sponsorship includes a gift of 100 pounds of rice twice a year, providing meaningful assistance to Maimouna and her family during times when food is especially difficult to obtain.
