Hello, my name is Mariam.  I live with my parents, two siblings, and a lot of other family members in a large multi-generational compound. We do not have electricity, but we have a small spigot where we can get the water that we need throughout the day.  We are a Muslim family.  Neither one of my parents has a job, but we also have a small family farm where we all work together during the rainy season to grow the food that we will eat throughout the year.  

A family member normally takes me to school on their bike or moto and then picks me up in the afternoon, too.  After school, I like to help my mother around the house or play marbles with my friends.  When I’m all grown up, I would like to become a doctor.
