Mariam was born in 2010. She attended school through the sixth grade, but after not passing the standardized exam required to continue to seventh grade, her father withdrew her from school.

Mariam’s parents are both living. Her father is elderly and is no longer able to work in the family’s fields. Mariam is a great help to her mother in caring for the household and the family.

Mariam’s parents are in agreement for her to attend the Girls Training Center, where she will learn practical life skills such as sewing and traditional weaving. The school is residential, and the training program lasts two years.

Mariam is eager to learn these skills, which will provide a brighter future for her and also enable her to help support her family.
