Mariam Sigue was born on March 19, 2014. From birth, Mariam faced significant health challenges; she did not cry when she was born and experienced delayed physical and mental development. Despite her biological parents’ devoted efforts, Mariam’s health did not improve. Seeking better care and a brighter future for their daughter, her parents placed Mariam in the Sheltering Wings Orphanage in 2019, praying that she would find a loving family who could meet her unique needs and offer her the nurturing environment she deserves.
Through the Sheltering Wings Host Family program, Mariam has found love and acceptance with her foster mother and foster sister. The house, though humble—with no kitchen or city water and powered only by a solar panel—provides a safe and caring space for Mariam. Water is fetched from nearby wells, and the nearest health center is 2 km away.
This year, Mariam will attend a special school for children with special needs located about 4 km from her home, an important milestone for her development. According to her foster mother, Mariam has made remarkable progress; she now understands words, can express her needs, and participates in daily activities around the home and in their community. Mariam’s life has greatly improved, and she interacts joyfully with neighborhood children. It is exciting to witness all that Mariam will accomplish.
