We are not certain of Masoukoura’s birth year. She is the second child of four children from her mother. She has an older brother and 2 younger sisters. Masoukoura lives in Kimini, a small village in southeastern Burkina Faso. She lives in a courtyard with her extended family. The family lives in a small mud brick house with a tin roof. There is no running water or electricity available in the village. Masoukoura's parents are both living but she is very vulnerable because she has a visual handicap. She can see but not well. It appears that all she has is peripheral vision. Masoukoura's parents have taken her to see a specialist and he said that there was nothing that could be done for her. The level of expertise of the specialists here and the diagnostic tools that they have to work with are not very high but for now, her prognosis is not very good. Masoukoura needs a sponsor so that we can take her to see other specialists and also, if possible, enroll her in a specialized school for the blind.
