Nourata was born in 2007.She lives in a village courtyard with her mother and four of her five siblings. Her father died unexpectedly six years ago and their life drastically changed afterwards. Nourata’s mother is severely handicapped. An accident crushed her arm and doctors could only remove all the bones leaving her with no function. She tries to cultivate, but it is difficult and they are always running out of food before the next harvest. Nourata’s mother has made several attempts at raising animals which have failed due to sickness and thieves stealing them. In the past few years since the death of Nourata’s father, her mother has scraped together what she could to send her children to school, but the fees keep increasing as her children get older and she is faced with having to pull them out of school altogether.
