Ousmane was born in 2001. He lives in a courtyard with his parents and two sisters as well as his father’s second wife and her children. The family is Muslim. Ousmane was born with deformities in his leg and arm. He has had surgery on his leg, but will need to have corrective surgery for his arm. He is a very sweet natured, shy boy who loves school and hopes to become a journalist one day. Ousmane’s family is very poor. They have no electricity or running water. The children walk 2 miles to retrieve water for the family to use for washing, drinking and cooking. They do this several times a day. Ousmane also likes to help his mother clean when he is not studying. Ousmane was given a place at the Sheltering Wings school. Here he can discover his full potential and not be held back by the stigma of his handicaps. He works very hard and is doing well. Science is his favorite subject. With a sponsor, Ousmane will benefit from a Christian education, a hot meal at school each day and medical help.
