Walide was born on April 25, 2018, in a remote village in West Africa. In his community, malaria and typhoid fever are common. Although treatment for malaria is available at a low cost, many families simply cannot afford the medicine they need.

Walide is a frail young boy whose mother, Salimata, has struggled to provide for him. For a time, her cousin stepped in to help raise Walide. He sent him to school and provided for his basic needs. Sadly, he recently passed away, leaving Salimata once again responsible for caring for her son on her own.

Salimata understands how important an education is and desperately wants to keep Walide in school. But providing even the basics—food, shelter, and clothing—is a daily struggle.

School is the bright spot in Walide’s day. He loves learning and is excited to be in the fourth grade this year (2026 - 2027).
