Wouzerou 1308MYKORPH14
Wouzerou was born in 2008 and lives with his mother, older sister and younger brother in Yako. Wouzerou’s mother is a tantie (baby care taker) at the Sheltering Wings orphanage. We noticed that Wouzerou could not hear and asked his mother if she would like to put him in school. She was overjoyed that there was a possibility for her son to get an education. She thought this was an impossibility. Here in Burkina Faso there are very few opportunities for children with disabilities. There are very few schools and they are very far from Yako. We tried to get Wouzerou a place in a school last year, but they were full. As this school year was approaching we got news of another school that also offered housing. We took a chance and asked if there was possibly a place for Wouzerou and were told that they would accept him into their school, the Insitut de Jeune Sourds (School for Deaf Children). Having an education, learning sign language and meeting other children like himself will be a huge blessing to Wouzerou. Imagine being able to communicate after years of being misunderstood. Imagine knowing that you are not the only one with this condition and there is hope for you to learn and succeed, just as hearing children do.
