When her husband died 15 years ago, she was left with four children to raise on her own. A few of her children are now adults and, like most parents, Debra is eagerly waiting for them to get married and give her grandchildren.Debra is living in the courtyard of her late husband’s father who is a pastor. There are seven people living together. There is no running water or electricity. Debra works in the field of the family to help do her part. She also fries small cakes called “samsa” and sells them to people in her community. With the money she saved she has been able to buy two small piglets. When they grow fat, she will sell them to help with the school fees of her younger children. Debra is also the leader of the Women’s Club in her local church.A sponsor will ensure that Debra never goes without food and will have access to medical care.
